Plan for clinical travel
MCC's checklist says clinical sites can be within 60 miles of Penn Valley and may lack public transit access. Arrange transportation and a flexible work schedule before classes begin.
4
Complete nursing and clinical courses
Follow your school's full curriculum, including supervised clinical work. Concorde's diploma, for example, combines classroom study and clinical experience before graduates seek NCLEX-PN eligibility.
BLS reported 4,570 jobs for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses in the Kansas City, MO-KS metro area in May 2025. The median wage was $30.97 an hour, and the annual median was $64,420. These are the latest figures available in the BLS OEWS Kansas City table, occupation 29-2061.
The employment figure estimates existing jobs across the metro, rather than current vacancies. The median describes the middle of the wage distribution, rather than a new graduate's offer. Compare an employer's posted pay, shift, weekly hours and license requirements when considering a position.
Published LPN tuition and ways to pay
MCC publishes approximately $6,615-$7,119 in-district tuition for fall 2026, before added expenses. Mid-America's 2027 guide lists $19,500 Kansas tuition and $20,700 out-of-state tuition, excluding other fees. Concorde's January 2026 table lists $38,016 day tuition and $40,854 weekend tuition. Ask for an itemized quote for your cohort.
MCC's FAQ describes daytime training in less than 12 months. JCCC lists nine- and eleven-month full-time routes and a usually fourteen-month part-time route. Prerequisite courses can add time before admission. Ask each school to review your transcripts and give you a start-to-finish plan that includes those courses.
Must I become a CNA before practical nursing school?
Some local programs require it. KCKCC's nursing application requires an active Kansas CNA credential when you apply for practical nursing. JCCC's admissions page requires Kansas CNA certification by the first day of classes. Check the timing carefully if you currently hold a Missouri CNA credential.
Can I attend LPN classes in the evening?
Yes. Concorde's calendar lists a January 4, 2027 evening/weekend start, with Tuesday and Thursday evening classes and weekend clinical shifts. JCCC also offers a part-time evening/weekend route that starts in June. Ask for the complete clinical calendar before agreeing to work shifts or childcare arrangements.
Does graduating make me licensed in Missouri and Kansas?
Graduation and licensure are separate. MCC explains that graduates must meet board requirements and pass the NCLEX-PN. Use the Missouri LPN instructions or Kansas initial application checklist for your situation. Kansas also lists additional conditions for a multistate license, including proof of Kansas residence; a campus across the border does not settle that question.
Why is Donnelly missing, and why does Mid-America show conditional approval?
The Kansas board's published list, revised December 2025 and checked October 27, 2026, marks Donnelly's PN and ADN programs Conditional Approval with no new admits. It marks Mid-America's PN program Conditional Approval without that restriction. Mid-America's guide advertises 2027 applications. Ask the board and school about any conditions affecting that entering class.
